In the recent years United Kingdom, has been a favorable haven for Indian fugitives. Britain has given a list of 17 fugitives to India, including liquor tycoon Vijay Mallya and Nirav Modi. Indian government flagged this issue at the meeting of G-20 finance ministers in Japan.
the perpetrators of India hide in the Britain as the legal system in India and Britain is almost identical and British Human Rights Commission is very strict in protecting the rights of each individual residing in its territory.
Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman, drew close attention to deal with the practice of fugitives who use investment based schemes to obtain residence or citizenship in foreign countries, while escaping from legal consequences. The practice is permitted by many jurisdictions. the FM has urged closer collaboration to help bring these offenders to face law, also calling upon the international community to agree upon a defense mechanism which can be taken against such non compliant jurisdictions.
Vijay Mallya was spotted at the Oval on Sunday, he arrived with his girlfriend Pinky Lalwani to watch India face Australia. He told the reporters “I am dressed in all blue to support India.”
